Making Like a Tree

Oh, dear, some of you are thinking. "Making Like a Tree" was a saying quite a number of years ago. It meant "leaving."

Alarmists will be thinking in absolute terms. Pragmatics will be wondering exactly what I mean by "leaving" and who or what I'm "leaving."

I came to another of many "eureka" [not the tent . . . joke] moments in my long life yesterday. I probably knew this from some class I took "in the dark ages" but it just registered and I'll explain why.

I started taking Protandim over three months ago and I stopped taking my amitriptyline. The first few days, I felt SO great and for six weeks I was on top of the world. I didn't have 'Fibro-fog' and I could think clearly . . . well, crazy-quilt clearly for those who don't know me . . . and I had energy like I hadn't had in years and years . . . and then, it all slowly slipped away. Just . . . day by day, I got so tired, so lethargic, so "depressed" . . . my energy was depressed. I supplemented the Protandim with Glutathione [the organic chemical that Protandim creates using my own DNA].

I went to a new doctor in another County. He's an Internal Medicine doctor. I had my Medicare Physical. I'm in GREAT [though overweight] shape. My blood pressure, my heart, my thyroid, my cholesterol, my blood is healthy. And the Doctor [Jabaley] looked at my Effexor XP and said "you're depressed." Well, no, I'm taking that for the FMS, but I do notice that it keeps me from wanting to shoot "certain political types." [THAT IS A JOKE although there is truth in most jokes, including that one.] He prescribed all my meds including the amitrip, which I did NOT refill.

So, I stopped the Protandim and picked up Kyolic and Kyolic-greens and Krill Oil [sorry Whales, I hope there's still enough in the ocean for your diminishing numbers] and Glutathione. I'm also taking an "Active Senior" vitamin and Magnesium. But the ENERGY doesn't show up. [No matter what people say, the caffeine in black tea is NOT the same as the caffeine in coffee.]

The only time I notice that I do have a burst of energy is when I drink a "Red Bull." But that's like three cups of coffee and 90 mg of caffeine. NOT a habit anyone should get into as it taxes the heart muscle. I usually drink one when I'm driving to visit my children/grandchildren. After four or five hours on the road, I'm ready for a nap. The Red Bull is a great pick me up and wakes me up. [Brushing my teeth with a peppermint toothpaste used to work to wake me up.] But I'm not so uneducated in the physiology of my body that I'd make a habit of drinking Red Bull. It's for what I deem "emergency" use, only.

Well, Saturday, I ate out for breakfast . . . at a favorite breakfast restaurant owned and run by some friends. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese English muffin and three cups of coffee. I was about half way through the BEC when I noticed my body responding positively to the food.

Eureka . . . [not the vacuum cleaner]. My body needs not just a "balanced diet" whatever that really means; it needs a certain percentage of the nutrients in different foods. Not just protein, but also carbohydrates, fat, calcium, sodium, potassium, sugar, and vitamins and minerals and probably a lot of 'other' nutrients in small unnoticeable quantities. Energy. E=mc2.
One of Einstein's great insights was to realize that matter and energy are really different forms of the same thing. Matter can be turned into energy, and energy into matter.

What does this have to do with me? Matter, or food, enters my body, is met "with the same amount of 'anti-matter' in my digestive tract" . . . starting with my mouth . . . and produces energy . . . that body chemistry that tells my brain "I feel great! I can conquer the world . . . or at least my part of my world." The energy that rejuvenates my body has to be the correct "formula" in order for it to be equal to the formula of the "anti-matter" needs of my body so that it can produce the energy I need to function and live.

Eureka . . . and I don't mean
Archimedes' exclamation upon discovering how to measure the volume of an irregular solid to be able to determine the purity of a gold object.

So, I went to the grocery store and decided on a menu that I hope will give me the quality and quantity of nutrients my body needs to continue to produce the energy I need . . . and a side effect is that I'm "leaving" some of the groups I belong to . . . they DEPRESS me! All the politics and the stupidity and uncaring attitude by the person who sits in the Oval Office in DC . . . AND the Congress AND the Republicans in the House and Senate . . . not all of them . . . MOST of them . . . and the tiresome negative comments about the few Conservative Republicans who are DOING something . . . I've had it. I am leaving!

And my brain and body tell me I am doing the best thing for my own sanity.

Thanks Archimedes and if I may use your term:

Clearing my head of politics

I am going to go "off line" for a while to clear my head. Politics is giving me a headache. I am not happy with the outcome of the Presidential election. I am taking time off to find my "muse" and to read The Federalist Papers. [http://www.americanphonic.com -- also on mp3 at this site] or [http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/]

Thank you for reading my blog. There are a lot of posts and many which will be interesting to the audience of readers.

I'll be back in 2009. Maybe before.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Why I'm Voting Democrat

I’m voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. All profits are evil and should be confiscated for Government Redistribution.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that MORE Government regulations and higher taxes on Business will stop Business from exporting their jobs to Countries with LESS Government regulations and lower taxes.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe terrorists should be allowed to have trials in American courts. And be able to subpoena top secret documents, soldiers, government officials, etc. to cross examine for their defense. They should have ACLU lawyers who can help intimidate Americans who serve on the juries!

I’m voting Democrat because I believe Gay Marriage should be the law of the land and will probably produce better children.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. I don’t mind pushing one for English when I use the phone.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe partial birth abortion is okay but water boarding a terrorist is disgusting.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe having a domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers as a close friend is a good thing. It allows for great relations with foreign terrorists.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe in a FREE government health care system. I believe doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies, etc. will gladly donate their time, products, services, facilities, etc. for FREE and that will be a better system.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe 9/11 was an inside job to con the American people to go to war for oil.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe social security is solvent and that there is a social security lock box and I don’t believe social security is a Ponzi scheme.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe MOST AMERICANS are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!

I’m voting Democrat because I believe illegal aliens deserve all the rights of ordinary Americans plus some additional rights Americans do not have.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe corporations should pay higher taxes! I believe higher taxes on business will make the price of their products and services LESS EXPENSIVE.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe groups like ACORN who register felons, drug addicts, wino’s, homeless drifters, illegal aliens, dead people, children, fictional Disney characters, etc. makes my vote count more.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe celebrating the winter solstice shows compassion for the small minority of people that do not celebrate Christmas.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe hard core criminal murders and rapists deserve life and that the innocent unborn deserve death. It’s a choice I can live with.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe Bush caused Hurricane Katrina and he blew-up the levies in the ninth ward of New Orleans.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe that any one who is not partaking in one of the many wonderful government programs obviously has too much money and should pay higher taxes.

I’m voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq the terrorists will be happy and now think of us as good people.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe our soldiers are AIR RAIDING villages and killing innocent people.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe sex in the Oval Office with an intern is a private matter and that everybody lies under oath about sex.

I’m votin Demokrat becuse I wus edumkated at a publick sckrool. I lik da Natsionel Edukatshun Assoseeashun!

I’m voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as it does not offend people. Can’t we all just get along?

I’m voting Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits are wrong. I believe higher taxes on oil companies will produce lower prices at the pump.

I’m voting Democrat because I believe we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil, BUT I AM AGAINST offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, drilling in Anwar, building nuclear power plants and clean coal technology.

And finally, I’m voting Democrat because I believe Reverend Wright when he said “GODDAMN AMERICA” and “OUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST”. Hey let’s make a comfortable nest for those chickens!

Why are you voting Democrat?

[Yes, I'm being sarcastic!]

An American Carol -- the Movie

Hollywood Takes on the Left
David Zucker, the director who brought us 'Airplane!' and 'The Naked Gun,' turns his sights on anti-Americanism.
by Stephen F. Hayes
08/11/2008, Weekly Standard, Volume 013, Issue 45

An American Carol is based loosely--very loosely--on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

[David] Zucker's latest movie, An American Carol, is unlike anything that has ever come out of Hollywood. It is a frontal attack on the excesses of the American left from several prominent members of a growing class of Hollywood conservatives. Until now, conservatives in Hollywood have always been too few and too worried about a backlash to do anything serious to challenge the left-wing status quo.

The holiday in An American Carol is not Christmas and the antagonist is not Ebenezer Scrooge. Instead, the film follows the exploits of a slovenly, anti-American filmmaker named Michael Malone, who has joined with a left-wing activist group (Moovealong.org) to ban the Fourth of July. Along the way, Malone is visited by the ghosts of three American heroes--George Washington, George S. Patton, and John F. Kennedy--who try to convince him he's got it all wrong. When terrorists from Afghanistan realize that they need to recruit more operatives to make up for the ever-diminishing supply of suicide bombers, they begin a search for just the right person to help produce a new propaganda video. "This will not be hard to find in Hollywood," says one. "They all hate America." When they settle on Malone, who is in need of work after his last film (Die You American Pigs) bombed at the box office, he unwittingly helps them with their plans to launch another attack on American soil.

The entire film is an extended rebuttal to the vacuous antiwar slogan that "War Is Not the Answer." Zucker's response, in effect: "It Depends on the Question."

New Preamble to the Constitution

Hey, Barry Obama, take notice!

NEW PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

'We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights.'

  • ARTICLE I:
You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

  • ARTICLE II:
You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based
on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You
may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion,
etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

  • ARTICLE III:
You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

  • ARTICLE IV:
You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

  • ARTICLE V:
You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

  • ARTICLE VI:
You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

  • ARTICLE VII:
You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

  • ARTICLE VIII:
You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

  • ARTICLE IX:
You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

  • ARTICLE X:
This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from,
English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from!

    (Lastly....)

  • ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

Be careful how you vote

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The cop is happy and leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The professor is very happy and leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your Business' and 'Becoming More Successful.

'Then, a Congressman comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman is very happy and leaves the shop. The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the members of our Congress.

Vote carefully this year.

Time Out for Me

I have been visiting family and am about to go off again -- retirement is so much fun -- so I will not be blogging much over the next few days and then I'm taking the month of February off for personal improvement (sounds so enlightened, doesn't it?)

There is so much going on in the world that I could comment on -- let's see, there's the Gaza Strip reopening which I believe is a total and grand error foisted on the Israelis by appeasers and proponents of the hateful cult of islam (I refuse to capitalize it or give it recognition it does not deserve due to its vengeful nature). Then there's the election process of caucuses and primaries. Fred Dalton Thompson is no longer running. He was the 'great GOP hope' and I believe he expected the media to treat him as a television star but when they treated him as 'one more enemy of Hillary' he wasn't ready for it. Then the media decided he was "lazy" and pushed that on the uninformed public so that the term stuck to Fred like gravy to rice. (No wonder Hillary lives and breathes by the Polls -- humans are basically ignorant and she doesn't have to be smart, just cunning.) Then there is the weather, which everyone likes to discuss as it relates to them or to global warming (the big AlGore-ism lie) or to the coming ice age, as my generation was taught in school. Then, there's crime, the interest rate, drugs, the de-fence-less Southern border, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

But I'm not going there today or during February, you are free to go there whilst I am on my personal retreat. I may come up for air and post in February if something I read is just too good not to remark about. So check in when you have a second. As I've said before, my side bar has great links and I invite you to peruse them.

Peace Out.

Your Career Type: Social

You are helpful, friendly, and trustworthy.
Your talents lie in teaching, nursing, giving information, and solving social problems.

You would make an excellent:

Physical Therapist - Social Worker - Teacher

The worst career options for your are realistic careers, like truck driver or farmer.
