Congress has been gazing at its own navel while US Citizens have been struggling to keep their heads above total financial ruin. Congress acts like an Oligarchy . . . they make plans for our future but refuse to live by the same plans. The Declaration of Independence says: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. WHERE does it say that Congress is better than the rest of us? WHERE does it say that all Federal Employees are better than the rest of us? WHERE does it say that it’s a person’s ethnicity that makes one person better than another? WHERE does it say that it’s who you know at CountryWide will get you a ‘sweetheart loan?’ But Congress is so intent of keeping the benefits they have and obtaining more by “paying off” their contributors that they’ve forgotten the one fundamental truth. It’s mentioned in the next paragraph of the august document: That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

It is NOT insurrection when a people decide that the government is governing without the consent of the governed. It is NOT insurrection when citizens rise up and remove an existing government which has governed with a despot’s hand. As the Declaration states: But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

When our right and our duty becomes inevitable, only the despotic usurper would attempt to declare martial law to crush those who disagree with him.

Patrick Henry paraphrased: We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the Courts, and have implored its interposition to end the tyrannical hands of the Obama Presidential Executive Order, Presidential Records Act, 44 U.S.C. 2201-2207, denying access to his records. Our petitions have been slighted; our remonstrances have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded; and we have been spurned, with contempt, from the foot of the Presidential Press Secretary!

There is no longer any room for hope or change by Mr Obama. If we wish to be free, to know the truth about Mr Obama — if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending, an open and transparent Presidency —if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained—we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of hosts is all that is left us!

They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary as the Executive, Congressional, and Judicial Branches of Government. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when an Obama Civilian Army guard or Black Panther shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope and change, until our Liberal (Marxist) President shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our Liberal Government can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election, no choice. The Congress, the Justices, have refused to act to bring an open resolution. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest as the Liberals in Congress and the Executive Czars are overwhelmingly in charge of our Government and the Justices are enfeebled and intimidated by them. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery and dhimmitude! Our chains are forged by Liberals who would destroy the very fabric of this great Nation as ordained in the words of the Constitution of the United States of America! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Congress, in the halls of the White House, on the bench of the Supreme Court! The war is inevitable—and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace— but there is no peace. The war for people’s minds and allegiance is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms, the billy-clubs of Black Panthers, the release of Islamic terrorists in our midst, the intimidation of Jurists, the refusal to accept the results of the American Grand Jury! Our brethren are already in the field working hard to unite Conservatives and to mandate for the release of Mr Obama’s credentials! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery when we were promised hope and change? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, be it for hope, be it for change; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Dear Congressman Nathan Deal:

Hey, got to hear the discussion about Health Care on CSpan3. Very well put. 

I have a comment.  

WHY do the Democrats keep making the Drug Companies, Insurance Companies, and Doctors the "enemy" and attacking them? Don't they understand the economics of Medicine?  

Drug Companies are money making businesses, they spend a lot of years and their profits (and money from stocks) on discovering chemical formulas that result in helpful and healing drugs. There are major expenses for equipment, scientists, the every day costs of running a corporation (utilities, salaries, etc). Drugs don't just fall out of the air. Many take years and years to discover their efficacy. And each year has growing expenses for the Drug Companies. Add to that that many of the larger drug companies now have programs for people who cannot pay for their medicines. Their doctor can complete some forms for them and they get free or lower cost drugs from that company. Drug companies are not the enemy.  

Insurance companies are money making businesses too. They have just as much right as any other business to earn a living and to pay their employees a living wage. They don't sit in their offices and scheme how to dupe people out of their hard earned income. They use mathematics to figure out how much to charge for each insurance policy. Insurance companies don't care if States group together and lower their premium costs by providing a larger pool of people to purchase their insurance. It's NOT the Insurance Companies who are keeping people from forming large groups and purchasing Health Insurance. It's the States and probably (I didn't check) the Federal Government. Insurance Companies are not the enemy.  

Doctors are in business to earn a living for themselves and their staff, too. I've yet to meet a doctor who, if he/she couldn't reduce prices for a low income patient, would not refer that patient to a doctor who charged less. I've met doctors who will provide health care for a chicken. Yes, here in the States, in Suches, Georgia, Dr. Pruitt has been known to accept produce or farm animals in exchange for health care. He also secretly pays some of the costs of medication for his poorer patients whose pride would not allow them to accept "charity." There are some doctors who will forego their payment so that a patient can afford the hospital bill when the patient needs surgery. WHY do Democrats and the President saying that Doctors are in business to get rich? They ARE in business to pay their bills and earn a living, but they have hearts of gold . . . some maybe silver . . . but the vast majority care more about their patients than the President gives them credit for. Doctors are NOT the enemy.  

So who IS the enemy?  

I submit that WE are our own enemy. We meaning the Federal and State and Local Government and Lawyers and Laws. In many schools, children no longer have physical education because "they might get hurt" and their parents might sue. So the children sit all day and get fat. For every "excuse" imaginable, schools no longer teach Home Economics; schools no longer teach good etiquette and good eating habits. I haven't met a teacher since I was in school (about 45 years ago) who does "in room exercises" between classes to help burn energy and calories. School Administrations spend too much money on the salaries of the Administrators and little or none for programs which would educate students in good and healthful living habits. They want to teach small children about "Sam having two daddies" but they don't teach good eating habits. Nor do they have the parents come in for classes in how to prepare nutritious after school snacks. (The Extension Service used to do that when I was a little child 60 years ago.)  

As Adults, we sit and watch TV or sit in front of our Computers instead of getting actively involved in a hobby which would get our bodies moving. WE are responsible for much of our own Medical Problems and Costs. Not all of them, because we don't choose to catch pneumonia or to fall off a horse and break a leg. But we do choose to eat fattening foods and sit all day.  

How can Congress legislate that people quit watching reality television and get involved in some activity? They can't. Neither should Congress be involved in trying to provide Medical Health Coverage for everyone in the USofA.  

The Next thing, Congress will say we have a "right" to a life insurance policy. Where did I put my copy of the Constitution of the United States of America?  

Please bring up my concerns, if you can, and encourage Congress to vote NO on ANY Government Health Care.

The truth is inescapable… Nobody works this hard to hide the simple truth kept in his personal records, unless that truth in some way threatens his current standing.

The 25-28% of American voters, including most members of the US press who desire a “New Amerika” run on the principles of Karl Marx instead of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, couldn’t care less whether or not Obama meets Constitutional standards because they couldn’t care less what the Constitution says about anything.

But the people who took an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, have a very different view of the subject.  Sooner or later, one way or another, the nation and the world is going to know the truth about the mystery messiah.

You see, people don’t hide or run from the truth unless the truth presents a threat of some sort. Whatever it is in Obama’s files, it’s clear that it presents a threat greater than all of the damage being done by the secret.

For trust to exist in any relationship, secrets cannot exist. And in this case, secrets of this magnitude with implications so far reaching, the secret itself threatens the stability of the entire federal government and its command of men and women who have taken an oath to protect and preserve the US Constitution and the free republic.

"Birther" Issue Explodes

Instead of simply opening those records and ending the debate, Obama has chosen to spend a million bucks keeping those records locked up and now, House members have decided to pass a non-binding resolution declaring Obama a “citizen” without first demanding to see the evidence necessary to prove their claim.

This is the stuff that real conspiracies are made of.... It’s not a “theory” that the Natural Born Citizen clause is a Constitutional requirement for the presidency, it’s a reality.

It’s not a theory that Obama’s records will either prove or disprove his eligibility for office, it’s a fact.

And it’s not a theory that when someone works this hard to hide something, there must be something worth hiding....

To know with certainty what the Founders meant by “natural born citizen,” one need look no further than the “natural law” at the foundation of everything they did.

Natural law says, when a father has a son, the son is the “natural born” descendent of the father, assuming his sir name and his citizenship by “birth right.” No man-made law is needed to establish the “birth rights” of the son.

The Founder’s used the “natural born citizen” clause to avoid any obvious conflicts in the Oval Office resulting from dual, divided or questionable loyalties to any foreign government or nation.

In Obama’s case, no matter whether he was born in Hawaii or Kenya, he cannot meet the Founder’s constitutional standard because he was born the son of an Arab-Muslim British subject from Africa, and therefore, has obvious dual or divided loyalties, which are now easily demonstrated by his “global agenda” at odds with American interests.

Clearly, the “birther” movement has hit full stride and investigators are getting too close for comfort. Hence the all-out media blitz of vicious attacks on “birthers” – baseless accusations of “racism” and non-binding congressional measures, all aimed at derailing the citizen effort to unmask the mystery messiah.

Just open the man’s files. If he has nothing to hide, why are you all working to hard to hide it?

Health Care Bill Page 16, 17 states you CANNOT keep your current health care, you will be forced to buy into a low grade HMO that limits specialists and tests. And the cost will be more for less medical coverage. (This is explained right at the end of the interview.)

The Health Care Bill is half paid for with a 5 Hundred Billion Dollar CUT in health care benefits and services for seniors. They are cutting patient care. How? Keep listening . . . by denying care to the elderly based on "comparative effectiveness treatment" or by taking the cost of treatment and dividing it by number of years patient is likely to benefit. (You might want to meditate on that a while if you're over age fifty.)

On Page 425 of Obama's health care bill, the Congress will make it MANDATORY require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. How to to decline nutrition, to decline hydration, or go into hospice care for medicare recipients.

If an elderly person gets sick between these five year counseling periods, such as cancer, you must have these counseling sessions again, in order to do what is in your family's or society's best interest and cut your life short.

In Feb, slipped in to The Stimulus Bill was something called "comparative effectiveness research" which is a code for denying care based on a patient's birth date. Cost of treatment divided by number of years patient is likely to benefit. Age related treatment is usually denied because they have too few years left. (Such as Macular Degeneration, Alzheimers, Osteoporosis.)

THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET: The Elderly are going to be especially hit by a Democratic Party that is always trying to scare people about their Social Security benefits. When George Bush was accused of cutting Medicare, they went nuts. This is the biggest crime on the backs of doctors, hospitals and the elderly people in the history of this Country.

An Example of How This Works: in 2006, the British National Health Service issued an edict using "comparative effectiveness research" stating "elderly people with macular degeneration could not get a new drug to save the vision in one eye until the vision in the other eye has been lost because that was the "cost effective way of doing it."

This is where the money is. When Barack Obama talks about saving money "in the long run" where do you think he's going to get those savings? By shortening your father's or mother's life. You can't pay for the treatment for your parents yourself.

In the bill: No one can get more health care by paying for it themselves than anyone else because it would be 'unequal treatment.'

The president's Health Advisor Dr Ezekiel Emanuel (Rahm's brother) says People who have incurable/irreversable illnesses should not be given direct health services. Such as denying basic health care services to a person with dementia. (or a child with cerebral palsy, etc) This will hit the elderly the most.

If my son were to claim he was better to serve in Congress because he grew up as a poor white dude raised by a single mother and can relate better to the masses, would you be insulted?

If I were to claim that I was better to serve on the Supreme Court because I grew up as a middle class white girl and can better relate to the majority of people living in the USofA, would you be insulted?

Sonia Sotomayor, if just a private citizen, would NOT be able to serve as a Juror if she revealed during 'voir dire' that her determination of the "facts" of the case would be influenced by the litigants' race, gender and national origin! It's ironic that she can serve as a judge after publicly expressing these biases.

What are you guys thinking?

Sonia Sotomayor has already verbally stated her philosophy in public over the past years, over and over again, and you guys are standing there with your palms over your ears. Once on the Supreme Court, there will be no recourse for the litigants of her 80% incorrect/questionable decisions! Sonia Sotomayor says "fidelity to the law" but she has had 80% of her decisions over-ridden by the Supreme Court! There's usually a divorce if there's been 80% infidelity!

How can you approve Sonia Sotomayor, knowing that she is not impartial . . . just listen to her talk . . . listen to how she rolls out her words and changes her pitch. She is being deceitful by her affectation of words and the manner in which she inflects her words.

Not only should she NOT serve on the Supreme Court, she shouldn't serve on the Court of Appeals!

Supreme Court Justices are not elected officials, but Senators who drink the kool-aid and vote for someone so obviously ineligible as Sonia Sotomayor, are. You wouldn't need to consider being reelected if you'd just repeal the 17th Amendment and return to the US Constitution Article 1, Section 3 as the Founding Fathers chose for Senators to be elected.

Timely Sermon on Genesis 47: 13-27

Sermon from a church in Virginia recently. Gen 47: 13-27

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of Genesis; we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?... Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray.. So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt, and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock - their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year.

But the famine wasn't over, was it?

So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes. That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master? Yes.

But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to the government, no, it says they gained possessions!

But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one. We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth" once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind.

And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same.. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?

Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.

Bow with me in prayer, if you will.

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation..Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.

Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government.

Autobiography of a Powerful Man

* I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in
another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children
with numerous women.

* I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in
me. My mother died at an early age from cancer.

* Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

* My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a
legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

* I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it
was widely accepted in my country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs &
didn’t follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

* I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult,
disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

* That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life
and I embarked on a new career.

* I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those
who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father
abandoned me as a child.

* I became active in local politics in my 30’s then with help behind
the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national
office in my 40s. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone
into anything. That reinforced my conceit.

* I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no
experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker
and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small
roofing tacks.

* I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This
bolstered my ego.

* At first, my political campaign focused on my country’s foreign
policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every
opportunity to bash my country..

* But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on
the country’s economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we
could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

* I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.
It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making
citizens hate them and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan
was clinched tight.

* I called mine “A People’s Campaign” and that sounded good to all
people.

* I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the
traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

* I knew that, if I merely offered the people ‘hope’ , together we
could change our country and the world.

* So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of
the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include “persecuted minorities” like the
Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown,
until after I became my nation’s leader.

* I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found
out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined
those people I associated with.

* I’m glad they didn’t. Then I became the most powerful man in the
world. And the world learned the truth.

Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country. There's nothing that the government can do to me if I've broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.

I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a yellow dining room. We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.

The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate, and began nibbling it as he walked back to the kitchen.

"Sorry about that," said the President. "Andrew is very hungry."

"I don't appreciate..." I began, but as I looked into the calm brown eyes across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty. It was just a dinner roll. "Of course," I concluded, and reached for my glass. Before I could, however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away and swallowed the wine in a single gulp.

"And his brother Eric is very thirsty." said the President.

I didn't say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought. I will play along. I don't want to seem unkind.

My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite.

"Eric's children are also quite hungry."

With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from under me. I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the room.

"And their grandmother can't stand for long."

I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool. Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game. I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken. I turned back to the President.

I wanted to shout- that was my coat! But again, I looked at the placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled. Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself and walked to a phone on an elegant side table. I learned shortly that my credit cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had been thrown out of our home. Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President hadn't moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the phone into its cradle and turned to face him.

"Andrew's whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven't planned for retirement, and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a sub-prime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it more than you do."

My hands were shaking. I felt faint. I stumbled back to the table and knelt on the floor. The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak and drank his wine.

"By the way," He added, "I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing your factories. I'm firing you as head of your business. I'll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all mankind. There's a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can't come to you for jobs groveling like beggars."

I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty dish which had been his Creme Brulee. He drained the last drops of his wine. As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in his chair. He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle. Why was I punished? How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I just played ... and lost?

What had I done wrong?

As if answering the unspoken thought, the President suddenly cocked his head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million beautiful white teeth, chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.

"You are a total idiot," he said. "You should have stopped me at the dinner roll..."

Our Historically Challenged President

In his speech last week in Cairo, President Obama proclaimed he was a "student of history." But despite Barack Obama's image as an Ivy-League-educated intellectual, he lacks historical competency, both in areas of facts and interpretation.

This first became apparent during the presidential campaign. Candidate Obama proclaimed then that during World War II his great-uncle had helped liberate Auschwitz, and that his grandfather knew fellow American troops that had entered Auschwitz and Treblinka.

Both are impossible. The Americans didn't free either Nazi death camp. (Regarding Obama's great uncle's war experience, the Obama team later said he'd meant the camp at Buchenwald.)

Much of what Obama said to thousands of Germans during his Victory Column speech in Berlin last summer was also ahistorical. He began, "I know that I don't look like the Americans who've previously spoken in this great city." He apparently forgot that for the prior eight years, the official faces of American foreign policy in Germany were Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — both African-Americans.

In the same speech, Obama seemed to suggest that the world had come together to save Berlin during the Airlift. In fact, it was almost an entirely American and British effort — written off by most observers as hopeless and joined only by a handful of Western allies when the improbable lift looked like it might succeed.

In the recent Cairo speech, Obama's historical allusions were even more suspect. Almost every one of his references was either misleading or incomplete. He suggested that today's Middle East tension was fed by the legacy of European colonialism and the Cold War that had reduced nations to proxies.

But the great colonizers of the Middle East were the Ottoman Muslims, who for centuries ruled with an iron fist. The 20th-century movements of Baathism, Pan-Arabism and Nasserism — largely homegrown totalitarian ideologies — did far more damage over the last half-century to the Middle East than the legacy of European colonialism.

Obama also claimed that "Islam . . . carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment." While medieval Islamic culture was impressive and ensured the survival of a few classical texts — often through the agency of Arabic-speaking Christians — it had little to do with the European rediscovery of classical Greek and Latin values. Europeans, Chinese and Hindus, not Muslims, invented most of the breakthroughs Obama credited to Islamic innovation.

Much of the Renaissance, in fact, was more predicated on the centuries-long flight of Greek-speaking Byzantine scholars from Constantinople to Western Europe to escape the aggression of Islamic Turks. Many romantic thinkers of the Enlightenment sought to extend freedom to oppressed subjects of Muslim fundamentalist rule in eastern and southern Europe.

Obama also insisted that "Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance. We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition." Yet the Spanish Inquisition began in 1478; by then Cordoba had long been re-conquered by Spanish Christians, and was governed as a staunchly Christian city.

In reference to Iraq, President Obama promised that "no system of government can or should be imposed upon one nation by any other." Is he unaware of how the United States imposed democracies after World War II?

After the defeat of German Nazism, Italian fascism and Japanese militarism, Americans — by force — insisted that these nations adopt democratic governments, for their own sakes and the world's. Indeed, it is hard to think of too many democratic governments that did not emerge from violence — including our own.

Obama also stated: "For centuries, black people in America suffered the lash of the whip as slaves and the humiliation of segregation. But it was not violence that won full and equal rights."

With all due respect to our president, this assertion is again not fully accurate. The only thing that ended slavery in the United States was the Civil War, which saw some 600,000 Americans — the vast majority of them white — lost in a violent struggle to ensure that nearly half the country would not remain a slave-owning society. Also, the massive urban riots of the 1960s and 1970s were certainly violent.

This list of distortions could be easily expanded. President Obama, in elegant fashion, may casually invoke the means of politically correct history for the higher ends of contemporary reconciliation. But it is a bad habit. Eloquence and good intentions exempt no one from the truth of the past — President Obama included.

Barack Obama, as Victor Hanson recently documented, may be our most historically challenged president ever. Some might think that the inaccuracies Hanson identifies are no big deal, but there are several reasons to be troubled by such ignorance.

First there’s the double standard of a mainstream media that for eight years scorned George Bush as a syntactically challenged ignoramus, and now gush over a president touted as an eloquent intellectual. Of course, the media have to ignore the fact that Obama’s eloquence is dependent on the teleprompter, or that he refuses to publicize his college transcripts, not to mention the numerous errors of fact evident both in his campaign and presidential speeches. Their assertions of his brilliance, despite gaffes such as those on display in Cairo, are like their assertions of Bush’s stupidity: wish-fulfilling myths serving partisan ends.

But more important is the danger to our foreign policy that such an ignorance of history represents. Particularly in our fight against radical Islam, history supposedly provides the basis of Muslim grievances against the West, especially the United States. Colonial occupation, imperialist aggression, the Western imposition of Israel on the “Palestinian homeland” in order to atone for the Holocaust––these sins of the West against the House of Islam are constantly put forth as rationalizations and justifications for violence against Western interests.

If history is to provide the foundation of grievance, however, then all of history is on the table, and that history must be factually accurate and judged by consistent standards. If, for example, the enslavement of Africans is an evil for which the West must take responsibility, then all slavery everywhere must be condemned equally. But when do we ever hear about Islamic slavery? In the three-century long heyday of Western slavery, some 10 million slaves crossed the Atlantic. Yet in the 14-century-long existence of Islamic slavery––still going on today in Africa in places such as Sudan––an equal number of black Africans were enslaved by Muslims. We hear all the time about the horrors of the “middle passage” across the Atlantic, but never about the forced marches of Africans across the Sahara desert, where thousands died of disease, exhaustion, and malnutrition. We never hear about the African men who had been castrated to be sold as eunuchs, if they were lucky enough to survive an operation in which not just their testicles, but all their external genitalia were cut off.

And don’t forget that slavery in the West was ended by movements of emancipation backed up by the British navy, movements that have not arisen from within Islam simply because the Koran does not forbid slavery. Don’t forget that included in the toll of those enslaved by Muslims were millions of Europeans taken in raids and sold for the harems, armies, and galleys of Muslim emirs, sultans, and caliphs. Yet have you ever heard a Muslim leader today apologize for slavery? Meanwhile, American leaders continually don the hair-shirt of guilt over slavery despite the fact that only 800,000 of the 10 million slaves that crossed the Atlantic came to the United States, and despite the bloody, destructive civil war that in part was fought to end slavery.

So too with the presumed sins of “colonialism” and “imperialism.” The modern European presence in the Muslim Middle East lasted for less than two centuries. Yet Muslims occupied Spain for over seven centuries, and the Muslim occupation of the Balkans for half a millennium didn’t finally end until World War I. And vast regions of the Middle East––north Africa, Egypt, Turkey, the Holy Land––that were not Muslim but Christian homelands, are still “occupied” by the descendents of imperialistic, colonizing Muslim Arabs and Turks who came as alien invaders and conquered those territories. In fact, if we are to add up historical grievances, the West has a long way to go to catch up with the centuries of attacks, raids, invasions, plunder, murder, and enslavement perpetrated by Muslims against Christians. But do we ever hear any Muslim leader apologize for this record of imperialist aggression and occupation, one triumphantly documented by numerous Muslim historians?

This acceptance by Westerners of a double standard when it comes to historical grievance is nothing other than groveling appeasement. Why do we fret over the status of Jerusalem, a city fixed by archaeology and history as the spiritual and political center of Judaism, when one of Christendom’s most cherished churches, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, remains in the possession of Muslims? Worse yet, we scold the Israelis over Jerusalem even though the Temple Mount remains under Arab control, and the Al Aqsa mosque still sits on the site of the Second Temple! If Israel had Islam’s standards of justice, the mosque would have been razed a new temple built where its two predecessors stood for over a thousand years.

Because of this double standard, we fall all over ourselves accommodating Muslim immigrants in the West, even as Christians are disappearing from the lands they inhabited for seven centuries before Islam even existed. We agonize over the 600,000 “Palestinian” refugees kept in squalid camps by their fellow Muslim Arabs, yet never say a word about the 800,000 Jews kicked out of Egypt, North Africa, Iraq, and Iran, places their ancestors inhabited in some cases for two thousand years. We harp on the “two-state” solution and demand a “Palestinian homeland,” yet never ask the Arabs why they didn’t create this homeland when the so-called West Bank was in their possession. We anxiously monitor our media and popular culture for insults against Islam, even as state-run media and universities in Muslim lands indulge anti-Semitic slanders that would make Hitler blush––much of it perpetrated by the same Al Azhar university that our President recently hailed as a “beacon of learning.”

There are many reasons for this double standard, not the least being the fatal self-loathing of Western elites. But this hatred of the West itself depends on an ignorance of history on display in many of Obama’s speeches. And that ignorance in turn reflects the corruption of history over the last forty years, which has seen a once-noble discipline turned from the record of what has happened into a melodrama of grievance used to advance political ideology. The next few years will show us how large a price we will pay for ignoring historical truth, as our acceptance of this skewed history saps our will to resist an enemy passionately convinced of his righteousness.
