Let us also recall that the Federal Government placed huge tariffs on manufactured goods leaving the South which were not rescinded until 1962. Yes, that's correct, 1962. Had the U.S. Federal Government treated Germany and Japan the way they treated the South, neither of those two Nations would have survived the destruction of WWII. The South is still trying to recover. And we do not favor any expansion of the Federal Government into affairs not specifically given to the Federal Government by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We still consider secession as an option.
