Snail Mail to Congressman Oberstar (D-MN)

The Honorable James Oberstar
2365 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Oberstar:

I need your help. Can you please explain to me why Representatives and SOME Senators think that they represent ONLY the people from their District or State? Don’t they realize they represent ALL of us when they represent their District or State? Because what they vote on in Congress affects every State. Therefore, their websites should accept emails from anyone and not just their constituents.

I read this article at http://www.reteaparty.com
Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., said he believes the technology exists to implement a mileage tax. He said he sees no point in waiting years for the results of pilot programs since such a tax system is inevitable as federal gasoline tax revenues decline.

“Why do we need a pilot program? Why don’t we just phase it in?” said Oberstar, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman. Oberstar is drafting a six-year transportation bill to fund highway and transit programs that is expected to total around a half trillion dollars.

The tax would entail equipping vehicles with GPS technology to determine how many miles a car has been driven and whether on interstate highways or secondary roads. The devices would also calculate the amount of tax owed.

And my reply was as follows:
With all due respect, give it a break Congressman Oberstar. You’re showing your lack of having read The Constitution and The Federalist Papers. What you’re suggesting is NOT Constitutional. But how will you know that if you don’t actually read The Constitution and then use The Federalist Papers to help you understand. Another GREAT book is Clousen’s “The Five Thousand Year Leap” as this puts The Constitution into perspective.

The Constitution MEANS WHAT IT SAYS. It’s a lot like The 10 Commandments . . . SET IN STONE. The problem with ‘inside the beltway’ is that you’ve all forgotten your oath of office and are acting like you never read a history book.

Take some time to get intimately acquainted with The Constitution, Bill o’ Rights and spend some time with The Declaration of Independence. Steep yourself in US History. BE what you signed on to be, not someone’s puppet mimicking what you’re told to say.

You may find these links helpful in reacquainting yourself with our Founding Fathers.

And I highly recommend your purchasing the paperback The Federalist Papers at http://patriotshop.us/product_info.php?cPath=75&products_id=762 where you can also purchase other books relating to our Founding Fathers.

Thank you and I hope I have been helpful in promoting my personal agenda: To get everyone “inside the Beltway” reacquainted with The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Federalist Papers.

Sincerely yours,
