In Nashville, TN, a story is playing out that underscores the importance of the blogosphere and computer literacy. A job applicant didn't appreciate the way the employment agency handled her interview. So she blogged about it. How the agency found out about the blog is not known. However, they asked their lawyers to sue.
The mistakes made by the employment agency and their attorneys include having no presence in the blogosphere and not understanding the importance of the Internet in the daily lives of millions of people. Instead of taking the criticism in a professional manner, they attacked, but without the aid of their own blogs or websites. The job applicant blogged about the letter threatening to sue. And the world of the blogosphere expanded so that instead of a handful of people reading the job applicant's blog, hundreds, if not thousands, picked up on the situation and spread the incident throughout the blogosphere.

Freedom of Speech is a beautiful and serious right of USofA Citizens. Beautiful in that it is a freedom we can use to express ourselves. Freedom of Speech is freedom of words. Freedom to blog. Freedom to express ourselves, who we are, what we think, how we see events. Serious in that we have a responsibility to be sure that our words are not scandalous or terroristic. Serious in that if we are writing or speaking the truth, we must be sure what we are saying is in fact true. And both beautiful AND serious in that what we say really does matter.
